The Duchy of Wynterhollow

Basic Background:
The Duchy of Wynterhollow is the northern most Duchy of Kirath. Situated in the High North. Constantly under siege from Fenfanrir (Ice Dragons) the Duchy has most of its resources placed into its military. They have some of the most highly trained fighters in the land. Men with a good horse can find work in the Duke's Own (the patrol that protects the Duke's Reserve) or the Duke's 1st Cavalry. Due to the large number of Ice Dragons, Wynterhollow is also home to some of the finest Dragon Slayers in Ameros. The Duchy is largely wilderness with a few large villages and cities, with very small hovels of twenty to thirty people dotting random areas of its lands.

Leadership:
Sir Temron the Black Knight and heir apparent to the Duke of Wynterhollow rules the Duchy. He refuses to take his father's seat and officially take up the office as Duke. He serves as one of the Seven Colored Knights to King Barian Dragonsbane of Kirath. Most of his time is spent in the capital of Kirath and so he leaves rule of Wynterhollow to his younger brother Jemron the Thane of Wynterhollow. His hair is as black as night.

Lord Jemron the Thane of Wynterhollow is the ruling member that resides in Wynterhollow. He is a talented Magi that spends most of his time studying magic to defeat the Fenfanrir. Local dignitaries and Eldermen run the day to day functions of the Duchy.

Lord Shevric Andalon VI is the Lord of the City of Andalon and has strong opposition to the continuing rule of Sir Temron of Wynterhollow and his brother. He believes that it is their families leadership that led to the downfall of Wynterhollow. This feeling is not shared by most however. So Lord Shevric sits in silent protest. He is in his mid thirties and like all men from Wynterhollow has black hair.

Tumbar Brokenaxe is the Opoc-Jarl of the Village of Shieldhammer. He is a dwarf of some years, over one hundred and forty years old. He has been the Opoc-Jarl of Shieldhammer since he was fifty-five years of age. He serves Sir Temron of Wynterhollow faithfully and trains many of his Opoc-Spal to fight for the withered tree of Wynterhollow.

Reed Feldon is the Elderman of Wayward Village. He is a strong farming man and oversees most of the Duchy's food supply for the winter. While he is young, only twenty-eight years old, he has great ability when it comes to resource management. His father was a Knight of Wynterhollow and was killed at the Battle of Fort Bleak by goblins. He has a hatred of greenskins as do all of the Northdwellers.

Sir Rod of Del is a transplant from the Shire of Carn'Del. He is a talented young knight in command of Fort Kraken's Neck. He has brown hair and stands out among his Northdweller soldiers. He commands over eight hundred highly trained Men-at-Arms at Fort Kraken's Neck. He is also charged with monitoring the abandoned Port Temron (named for Sir Temron at his birth) which fell to the Fenfanrir. He leaves several rangers and soldiers there to report on activity.

Sir Telmer the Dragonslayer is a Dragonslayer placed in command of the Duke's 1st Cavalry. He patrols Barden Pass routinely with the one thousand cavalry under his command. He has slain three Fenfanrir.

Captain Drokonief Balicdorf is the Captain of the Duchy's Guard and Commands the Duke's Own. He is an aged man who was once a squire to Sir Gondfound the Silver Knight, before leaving his tutelage to take up the position as Captain of the Guard. He has launched several attempts at retake Fort Bleak all of which have failed with major casualties leading some of his men to distrust him.

Prominent Races:
Humans
Dwarves
Goblins
Fanfenrir (Ice Dragons)
Halflings (less than 1000)
Elves (less than 1000)
Ursan (less than 1000)

Cultures:
Northdwellers- Northdwellers are similar to King's Men, but all have black hair with brighter colored eyes. The Northdwellers bare a natural hatred for Greenskins and will do everything in their power to destroy them. Northdwellers all pray to the Divine One or various local deities.

Dwarves- The Dwarves of the North are similar to dwarves from anywhere else. They are short and stout. Tough and stoic. Bred for hardship and battle. They craft axes and other weapons out of the plethora of metals available. They share a hatred for the greenskins.

Goblins- The Goblins of the North are an irritatingly savage bunch. Much more brutal then their highwaymen counterparts of the south, these goblins breed for war. The are highly trained and highly motivated, but they are under equipped. They keep to themselves in their wood, more afraid of the Fenfanrir than the Humans & Dwarves.

Fenfanrir (Ice Dragons)- The Fenfanrir keep to the most frozen parts of the Duchy of Wynterhollow. They are few in number, but have considerable power. Very few men can kill one and take the title Dragonslayer.

Shire of Carn'Del

Basic Background:

The Shire of Carn'Del is one of the smallest shires in the Kingdom of Kirath under the rule of King Barian I and its Sheriff Axel of Del. The Shire has been in poor health since the Brethren of the Forest came and gave a voice to the Dra'Hani. Sheriff Axel is able to maintain rule via the thirty knights the shire boasts. The Knights are of the Order of the Banded Blade. The Shire Proper has over 10,000 people living in it and the Hamlet of Southwood is home to 1500 farmers and craftsmen. While the main export of the Shire is wheat and barley, the Hamlet of Southwood also exports a significant amount of fish as well.

Leadership:
Sheriff Axel of Del is a man in his late thirties. He has been sheriff for over ten years, succeeding his father in his failing health. He has trouble maintaining order and leaves most of his troops to garrison the Shire Proper. He spends most of his time in his keep, which causes most of his people to think of him as an absent lord. He is a talented diplomat, but has no experience in maintaining a Shire. He longs for a position on the King's Council.

Lady Renna of Del is the Lady of Carn'Del. She is married to the Sheriff, but has bore him no children save one who died at childbirth. She is beautiful yet her face is heavy with sorrow for the loss of her only child.

Drikkar the Elderman is the most prominent figure in the Hamlet of Southwood. He keeps an uneasy peace with the Dra'Hani, by giving them resources. He is not fond of the Sheriff and has led several small rebellions against the Shire Proper. Sir Yellowtree has quickly ended these rebellions.

Drel of Del is the advisor to Sheriff Axel. He is an older gentlemen in his late forties. Balding, but skinny, he offers council to the Sheriff and for the most part runs the Shire of Carn'Del.

Captain Moroz is the Ursan Captain of the Guard. Ursan are sentient bears that grow bigger than forest bears. He is one of the few true warriors the Shire Boasts other than the Knights of the Order of the Banded Blade. He ensures the safety of the Sheriff and the Shire Proper.

Sir Yellowtree of Del is the commanding knight at Fort Graystone. He commands the thirty knights and the four hundred men-at-arms and levy soldiers that are garrisoned at Fort Graystone. His main goal is for the Knights to reclaim Fort Blackstone to the south which was lost to bandits a century ago.

Prominent Races
Humans are a bulk of the races present in Carn'Del. They are a majority of the farmers, soldiers, men-at-arms, and fishermen. They are mostly loyal to the Sheriff, but have lost loyalty to their young King, Barian Dragonsbane.

Dra'Hani have been present since the Brethren of the Forest came and gave them a voice. The Dra'Hani are deer people givin hands. They now live in secrecy, killing all who enter their forest.

There are a few scattered beings of other races such as: halflings, orcs, and elves.

Cultures
King's Men- Most of the people in the Shire are referred to as King's Men. They prominently speak Weilish. They worship the Divine One.

Hill People- The Hill People are a strange group of sky worshipers. They are few in number, but still practice in human sacrifice. Their faith is placed heavily in visions and prophecies. It is believed by many that they keep Mt. Farcry from erupting. This is the only place in Ameros they can be found. They most commonly speak Grekan.

Outlaws- The Outlaws are a group of bandits that have existed outside the rule of the Sheriff and the King for over a century. They captured Fort Blackstone and the Far Planes. They speak Weilish.

Welcome to New Ameros

Chuch Turnitsa's Valley of the Old Ones has been a major inspiration for this. Not necessarily story wise but the general make up of the blog. I encourage gaming enthusiasts to check it out.
